Welcome Pillow - Candlewicking

Slate Blue Decorative "Welcome" Pillow -
Hand Embroidered, Candlewicking Style

This welcome pillow would make a beautiful addition to a guest room. It is a thin 2 ply slate blue yarn stitched on unbleached muslin cloth. The Muslin is framed by a tree pattern blue fabric. The back was created using this same fabric. This measures approximately 9 inches x 15 inches.

Candlewicking is a technique that uses French Knots (or Colonial Knots) as well as other embroidery techniques on unbleached muslin using thread, floss, or thin yarn. The thread used is typically Ecru (or cream color), but I used a light blue thin 2 ply yarn.

This welcome pattern originally came from a Canterbury Designs kit entitled "Welcome". It was originally supposed to be matted and a fabric frame for display, but I liked the pillow idea better!

Oh....if you don't remember from previous posts... I really dislike French Knots, but I like how they look!
