~Sarah and Ashlin
A weekly art/craft project by Ashlin, Sarah or Both. We wanted to challenge ourselves to be creative and try to expand our skills. We'd love to have some feedback and suggestions for improvement, so please leave a comment when you visit. Thanks! A few posts will be Tom's handy work, but Ashlin or I will be writing it up for him as he doesn't like to write.

My Mother's Girl Scout Mementos
For Christmas, Ashlin and I swiped my mother's Girl Scout mementos. WE found 2 - 12"x12" Scrapbook frames (thanks to Megan). I had Girls Scout Scrapbook Materials in my very large stash, so we sat down and had some fun! WE got all her patches and pins in the two frames with a few added embellishments.

Mother Shirley's Jewelry Display Case
For Christmas, Tom and I decided his mom should have a Jewelry Display cabinet for her Craft Show Jewelry Sales. Tom worked on the box, I stained it a pretty Red Mahogany color and added a velvety pink backing in it. We used Plexi instead of glass as it is lighter to carry and less chance of breaking. I have a feeling we might be making more soon!

Ashlin's Pageant Costume - Mary
Ashlin's Pageant Costume - Mary
A few days before Christmas I made Ashlin a new costume for the Christmas Pageant. She was Mary this year. Most of the costumes I made 5 or so years ago. Needless to say..the kids have grown quite a bit.
I found 5 yards of fabric at Walmart for less than $30. I cut out the pattern and stitched it together: Tunic and Belt. I had a scarf my mother had given me last year after her Caribbean Cruise that worked perfectly for her veil.

A Musical Memory Board
One more Musical Memory/Picture Board. I used a scrap plywood board and extra batting. I used new Musical Print Fabric and Ribbon from Stampin' Up. The buttons have been in my stash for a long time. I found the clothespins at Walmart to attach things to the board. This board is on its way to its new home very shortly. I hope he enjoys it!

Megan's Jewelry Cabinet
A year ago, we found a beautiful antique maple mirror at an Antique shop. I thought it would be a beautiful jewelry cabinet for Megan. Tom agreed.
We got some Maple lumber from a place on the reservation and Tom planed it down. Tom built a box for it and put a natural clear stain on it to enhance the natural maple wood. I lined the back with a red velvety fabric and added the brass hooks and jewelry hangers. I drilled and screwed in 39 hooks for necklaces, 10 hooks for bracelets and 7 brass rods for Earrings. Tom assembled it using a sturdy piano hinge and a lock.
After Christmas, he hung it on the wall on top of fern strips screwed into the studs as it is such a heavy piece and Megan immediately started filling it.
