Recently, I attended an auction and bought a box full of vintage sewing linens and items. This quilt was a partially finished project within this find. All the pieces were there and it was partially completed.

This one of a kind quilt is rough edged appliqued with sea horses and seashells. It has alternating blocks designed with what I gather to be a courtroom stepped log cabin style. I machine quilted this quilt and bound it with the backing fabric.

This quilt was created entirely with vintage fabric and batting. The colors are all peach and green. The back and binding is a peach with white polka dots.

This quilt measures: 471/2 inches tall by 36 inches wide. Perfect for a crib.

Along with the quilt was a partially made wall hanging panel. It has a single seashell on it and was finished in the same manner as the quilt. This wall hanging measures 17 x 17 inches square.


This is the way I found the quilt. In a box already pinned and ready to quilt! Sooooooo..... many pins!

I was hoping all my work wouldn't be in vain.

I quilted it by stitching 3 squares in the blocks and stitching around the appliques.

Quilted and ready to bind. The back was long enough to fold over and use as the binding, so I trimmed it and trimmed the batting. Folded over the backing and machine embroidered the binding.

A New Jelly Roll Quilt

Baby Boy or Baby Girl Quilt - Jelly Roll Style with Flannel Back - Orange and Blue

If you don't know what a Jelly Roll is, it is a roll of 2.5 inch strips of various patterned fabrics. I stitched the Jelly Rolls together and washed them. I also pre-washed the flannel fabric for the quilts and the fabric I wanted to use as a binder to prevent shrinkage later on.

I machine quilted the quilt using decorative stitches. I did the same to the binding fabric. Normally I hand tie it and hand bind it. I decided a decorative machine stitch would be nice for this one.

This quilt has a variety of beautiful patterned fabrics in orange, blue, yellow, and green. (The reverse side has a bit of pink as well. It has a bright geometric flannel backing in numerous bright colors. It is bound with an orange Batik fabric.

My Jelly Roll Quilts are about 29" wide and 42" tall.

A Doll Cradle For Emmah

A Cradle for Emmah!

Unfinished Cradle

Tom and I found this cute cradle at an auction a few weeks ago. It was made out of a National Biscuit company crate. It was a perfect gift for a 6 year old girl. I lightly sanded it down as I did not want to lose the character from the crate and stained it with the dark walnut stain.

Next I was off to make a mattress and quilt for this cradle.

A Mattress for Emmah’s Cradle!

I found some cream fabric and batting in my stash. I measured and cut the fabric. I Stitched up the fabric and batting, leaving one end open for turning. I then turned the fabric and blind stitched the opening closed. A few hand stitched ties with embroidery floss and the mattress was finished…Now for the Quilt…

A Doll Quilt and Pillow for Emmah

Emmah loves Giraffes, so I found some giraffe patterned flannel for this cute little quilt. I had scraps from a baby quilt I made that I was able to cut to make the doll bed sized quilt. I layered everything and wrapped the flannel over the edges and stitched it in place to make the binding. I machine quilted a flower in the middle of the doll quilt.

Then  I cut a small rectangle to make a pillow for the bed using the same flannel fabric.
