Jewelry Cabinet 2- Christian Print Frame

This was another of our finds. I bought a bunch of frames at an auction and this was among them. It had a few little nicks on it, but I touched it up with the dark walnut finish that the box was stained in. The wood is pine for the box, but the shelves are  hard poplar (all stained Dark Walnut).

The cabinet measures 10 1/8" Tall by 13"s wide. The shelf depth is 3". The inside back is covered in black velvet and all the hardware is brass. The left side area measures 7 5/8" Tall. The top right shelf measures 4 1/8" tall by 5" wide. The bottom right shelf is 3 1/4" tall.

There are 6 hooks on the left side, 2 5" brass dowels for earrings on the top right area and 3 hooks on the bottom right area.

Tom's KeyBox #1 Corvette

I found this picture at a garage sale and thought it would make a great Key Box. Tom agreed. I left it framed as it was and Tom made a box to go behind it. I stained it the Ipswich Pine color to match. Tom thought using some cork board in it would make a nice backing so notes and other items could be posted. It has 8 hooks for keys. 4 on each shelf. It has a 2" Shelf depth and measures 11 1/4" Tall by 13 1/4" Wide. The shelf height is 4 3/4" and 4 1/2" respectively.

The corvettes, I am told, are multi-year models.

Large Vinyl Album Single Wall Hooks

I like the multi-record album hooks I've made, but not everyone has space for a larger rack, so I made a few single hooks with my remaining hardware. I really like them.

Hook 1: London Album with Silver Hook Double Hook

Hook 2: Grand Canyon Suite with a single hook.

Hook 3: Midnight Serenade with a Silver Hook.

Hook 4: Big Country Album with a Double Brass Hook.

Hook 5: Genesis Album with an Older Double Brass Hook

New Multi Record (45's) Racks

I liked the Hooks I made for Ashlin's room, so I wanted to try a couple to sell. This is what I came up with:

Shelf 1: Single Hooks

Shelf 2: Red, White and Black; Double Brass Hooks

Tom-- Display Cabinet #3

Tom enjoyed making his shot glass cabinet so much that he made another.

This one is made in pine, stained cherry, and has 3 non-adjustable shelves. The back is Luann that he stained cherry and left without a fabric cover. The front is a Plexi glass.

Vinyl Album Mail Racks.

I decided to make some mail holding racks using the albums.

I took some vinyl records (the larger size) and tried to melt them in a pot of water...I didn't have a large enough pan, so this did not work very well.

I then turned the oven to 350' and put a bowl in it. I left the door open and half the record out of the oven as I wanted to melt only part of the album. As soon as it started to melt, I grabbed it out and bent it over a board.

The next step was to drill a hole in it for hanging purposes. Finally, I added stickers to label it mail. (I tried painting first, but the paint ran along the grooves and it was a mess.)

I made 6 of them so far.

Vinyl Album Bowls

Vinyl Album Bowls:

I have seen the records melted and shaped into bowls, so I thought I would try it. I put a bowl in the oven and set a record on top at 350'. As soon as they started to melt, and droop, I took them out of the oven and shaped them over the top of another bowl.  They are very hot to handle, but it is too hard to use gloves with them. I let one melt a little too long and it stuck to the bowl in the oven....not good!

Anyhow...this is how they cam out:

Small Bowls (Great for jewelry or other nicknacks.)

My favorite. I painted a silver edge on it before I melted it. The album has a strange texture to it, but I think it was thicker to start with.

Large Bowls: Good for odds and ends.
